San Fransisco and San Diego
I arrived in San Fransisco on Saturday morning and then to San Diego on Sunday Afternoon.
A kind friend took me to ballet. San Fransisco Ballet is a very good company ant the program was very enjoyable. Eden/Eden, the new work from Wayne McGregor was brilliant. It is a little bit like Forsythe, but very aggresive and sensual. The theme was about cloning and the music was by Steve Reigh. And in a different program Chin Lin, which was Chinese inspired, Yuan Yuan Tan was marvellous! She was beautiful, sweet, technical and had so much charisma. The very delicate lines of her was so impressive. The male dancers are very handsome. Many Spanish and Cuban Dancers. I look forward to see her this summer. And the Opera House, War Memorial Hall was so gorgeus and beautiful.
I stayed at my old friend Maribel's home in Richmond and it was so nice. We cooked some Thai Curry vegiterian style. The dogs Gia and Pepe are so cute. Maribel's husband Les' artwork are wonderful.
In San Diego, Thai cuisine and Indian cuisine was very good, the restaurant was chic and the price was not expensive. San Diego restaurants are all very good.
In the evening of the convention we had a session with a genius mathmatician and it was really fun. A magical mathematician is a man called the world's fastest calculator and can do very complex calculations in unbelievable speed. He is also a magician and he can perform magic too. He was really funny. He does his magic shows in Los Angeles and also is a professor of mathmatics.
This convention called ETech is a convention for geeks(=computer Otaku). They sit on the floor of Grand Hyatt with laptop computers on their lap. They mash up sites at once. Even though it is quite cold they only wear a T-shirt. They are quite plump and some wear scottish quilt skirts. Very geeky. Many of them are hackers.
I had free time at night so I went to the movies- A love comedy called Music and Lyrics by Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Hugh Grant was a pop idol in the 80's but he was forgotten till one day a top star asked him to write a song for her. But he had not written songs for a decade. He met this girl Drew Barrymore who can write lyrics but had a sad secret. The 80's pop idol look of Hugh Grant was so funny and it was a good movie.
In the morning I made some free time and went to Balboa Park. It is a huge park with the world famous San Diego Zoo and many museums. I did not have time to go to the zoo- only one hour there so I went to the Museum of Art instead. The park was full with many exotic beautiful buildings.
As there was not so many time I could only the the special exhibtion- Photography of the famous photographer Annie Leebovitz. This exhibiiton was really great- I always admired her work. Many photos of celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Colin Powell, Mick Jagger, Brad Pitt, the famous pregnant nude of Demi Moore and so one. Also pictures of Annie's family. It was amazing to know that she had her first child at 52 years of age and the next year she had twins. The children were so cute.
The lunch break was quite long so I had a walk by the bay- The Seaside Village was very beautiful with many unique shops. Many yaghts in the bay. The weather today was very good compared to yesterday which was very windy and cold
We had some Pizza with Japanese participants- It was difficult for Japanese to understand American Geek culture. It is a bit different from Japanese Otaku culture.
I will be moving to San Fransisco tomorrow evening and go home on the day after.
